AFTERNOON TEA IN CANTERBURY

June 19, 2016
Yesterday Jacob and I decided to get away from London for the afternoon and headed down to Canterbury in Kent. (On the high speed train from London, you can get to Canterbury in about an hour, so definitely a do able day trip!)

This has always been one of my favorite places to escape to. While it is still a relatively big city, it still feels smaller and still retains a lot of charm. The town center is a great place to get a little bit lost!

The Canterbury Cathedral is one of my favorites to walk through, and if you have time, I highly suggest signing up for the cathedral tour. The docents are all really knowledgable about the cathedral and I think it always helps you to appreciate the importance of somewhere like this when you know more about the history and the significance of events that have taken place there. Entry to the cathedral is £12 per adult, and the tours are £5 per person (with a family ticket being a bit of a better deal at £10). More details on visiting the cathedral can be found here.

On one of our visits a couple of years ago, we stumbled upon a tiny little tea room call The Moat Tea Rooms. It is just up the road from the beautiful Canterbury Cathedral, so a great place to stop and sample a very traditional British past time.

After exploring the cathedral, I really do recommend heading down the street to The Moat Tea Rooms.  You are able to choose from a wide variety of teas and coffees to go with your delicious homemade cakes and scones. And dont forget yummy clotted cream (very important that this is clotted cream and not whipped cream) and jam...but the big question is what do you spread on first, the cream of the jam!? This is an on going debate between people from Devon and Cornwall. So who do you side with - Devon (cream first, then jam) or Cornwall (jam first, then cream)??? Let me know how you like to take your scones! As you can see from below - I side with the Devon crowd!!
